COCO KLEIN (he/they/she) is a Canadian-born, Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist, performer, filmmaker, and creative director whose work explores how art can expand our capacity to imagine more compassionate futures.

Working across documentary film, drag, performance, fashion, costume design, music, and speculative world-building, Coco creates immersive experiences that invite audiences to question inherited narratives around identity, gender, power, and belonging. Their practice is rooted in transformation, using storytelling as a means to move beyond critique and toward new possibilities grounded in empathy, radical self-expression, collective care, and love.

Rather than viewing these disciplines as separate careers, Coco approaches them as interconnected languages within a single artistic practice. Each project contributes to a larger body of work exploring how imagination can become a catalyst for personal and social transformation.

Treating drag not as a category but as a methodology, Coco uses the body as both canvas and portal. Through costume, movement, sound, ritual, and spectacle, they create immersive worlds that blur the boundaries between performance, activism, fashion, technology, documentary, and contemporary art. Beauty becomes an invitation, encouraging audiences to engage with complex social questions through curiosity, joy, and emotional connection.

Coco’s work has been recognized across both institutional and commercial platforms. Recent highlights include exhibiting original costume design at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, Switzerland as part of TRANSFORMATION, alongside artists connected to Susanne Bartsch’s creative legacy, collaborating with Adidas to creatively direct and lead performance curation for a New York Fashion Week activation recognized by Complex as “The Best New York Fashion Week Activation of 2025,” and presenting work across museums, festivals, nightlife institutions, and cultural spaces throughout Europe and North America.

Currently based between Paris and Berlin, Coco is developing an ambitious transmedia body of work that spans documentary filmmaking, music, performance, and interactive media. Their flagship project, The Future Is _____, is an evolving documentary-interview series that explores queer futures through interconnected storytelling, amplifying diverse voices while inviting audiences to imagine worlds built on compassion instead of fear.

Driven by a belief that imagination is a political act, Coco’s work asks a recurring question: what becomes possible when we allow ourselves to rehearse more loving futures together? Through every medium, they seek not only to represent alternative worlds, but to create emotional experiences that help make those worlds feel tangible, achievable, and worth building.
